Light Plane Crash in a Field

Scenario: Light Plane Crash in a Field. Category: Vehicle Fire
This training scenario has been automatically assigned 2 random dynamic events to enhance the realism and unpredictability of the exercise. These events are designed to simulate real-life challenges. If you’d like to generate 2 new events, Refresh this page.
Introduction

Firefighters respond to a light plane crash in an open field with two individuals trapped inside. The plane is severely damaged, though no fire is present. However, there is a significant fuel leak, posing a high risk of ignition. The primary challenges include securing the scene to prevent ignition, safely extricating the occupants, and managing the hazards associated with fuel vapours.

Objective(s)

To train firefighters in handling aircraft incidents involving fuel hazards, focusing on safe extrication techniques, hazard containment, and effective scene control to prevent ignition.

Learning Objectives

Assess the crash site and establish a safe perimeter to minimise the risk to responders and bystanders, taking into account the wind direction to manage fuel vapours.
Deploy fire protection and/or suppression if required.
Use stabilisation tools to secure the plane, preventing movement during the extrication of trapped individuals.

Dynamic Events

Pump Overheats

Your primary firefighting pump has overheated due to a cooling failure. You are now unable to pump water for 30 minutes from this pump.

Hose Reel Jam

While rapidly deploying a hose reel for a quick attack, the hose reel jams, preventing further extension of the hose. The crew is forced to manually unroll the remaining hose, or connecting additional hose, slowing their response time to the advancing fire.
