Helmets of Hope: Junior Firefighter Liam’s fundraising mission

A tiny hero by the name of Liam has come to life in Sydney, lifting the spirits of both locals and firefighters. This young philanthropist has taken it upon himself to visit fire stations across NSW, not only spreading joy but also raising crucial funds for the Burns Unit at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, officially known as Fire & Rescue NSW ‘002’ Station (City of Sydney is 001!).

Liam’s journey began at the humble 018 Glebe fire station last year, where the crews welcomed him with open arms. His daily visits became a heartwarming routine, prompting his dad to expand their horizons and visit other fire stations across the region. To date, Liam has graced over 75 FRNSW fire stations, including a memorable visit to the head office at Greenacre, where he took a seat in Commissioner Jeremy Fewtrell’s chair.

Liam’s mission gained momentum when he stumbled upon the ‘Beat The Burn‘ initiative during a visit to the 054 Station Cronulla. Intrigued and motivated to contribute, Liam and his dad reached out to ask how they could help. The response was immediate, and the next week, he visited 093 Station Narellan. Here, the idea of turning old FRNSW structural helmets into donation helmets for the burn unit came to fruition. Equipped with his own helmet, Liam’s Beat the Burn fundraising profile was created, marking the beginning of his dedicated efforts to support the cause.

Because of his contagious enthusiasm, Liam has become a beloved figure among FRNSW firefighters. Known as their “favourite fundraiser,” Liam embodies the reason why people choose to become firefighters: to be positive role models and help those in need. The happiness he brings to fire stations is a reflection of the happiness firefighters see when they visit burn units, highlighting the power of compassion and community.

Liam’s story serves as a reminder that even the smallest gestures can have a significant impact, lighting up the lives of those in need and spreading warmth throughout New South Wales. As he continues his journey, his dedication to supporting the Burns Unit serves as an inspiration to us all. Firefighters, communities, and individuals alike are encouraged to join hands in promoting burn prevention and supporting initiatives like Beat the Burn.
