Crews save family turtle from Williamstown house fire

In the early hours of the morning the Country Fire Service (CFS) responded to reports of a house fire in Williamstown, with crews arriving to find a large house fully alight.

60 firefighters, using 12 appliances and supported by 2 bulk water carriers, implemented mainly defensive firefighting techniques, with the exception of an internal attack to retrieve the family pet turtle, which was soon re-united with the 4 occupants who had safely evacuated.

Preliminary estimates indicate financial losses of approximately $1.3 million. Multiple CFS stations attended, along with the SA Metropolitan Fire Service, SA Police and Ambulance Services, as well as SA Power Networks.
